Pulpit Ministry
Having preached his first sermon at age fifteen, entered the gospel ministry at age eighteen, and began serving as a pastor at age twenty, Alan has a long history of pulpit ministry. His favorite style of preaching is expository preaching, and to that end has developed thousands of sermons covering major themes, doctrines and entire books of the Bible. Alan is available to preach and always promises to honor the Pastor, exalt Jesus, invite the lost to salvation, and encourage the church while calling them to greater service in the Kingdom of God.
Evangelistic Ministry
Renewal, revival, crusade, awakening – call it what we might, the church needs an occasional “shaking.” Acts 4:31 states, “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.”
The outcome of that “shaking” was threefold: there was unity, “all the believers were one in heart and mind.” There was unction, “with great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.” And there was unlimited grace, “and much grace was upon them all.” Alan is available to prayerfully help churches and communities experience a fresh encounter with God and to once again have their spiritual sails filled with the wind of the Holy Spirit.
Teaching and Conference Ministry
Based on prayerful input from pastors and church leaders, teachings are often tailored to meet the needs of local congregations. Some of the most requested have included:
This workshop is most often used in some form of a weekend setting. While highly adaptable, it has proven to be most effective two sessions. Friday evening/Saturday morning or Saturday morning/Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning/Sunday afternoon.
The heart of the study focuses on the development of “servant leaders.” The actions of Jesus in John 13:1-20 provides the Biblical foundation of this study, and these sessions include an extensive investigation of leadership styles.
Using the book by the same name, this workshop also uses Social Styles and Leadership Styles as a point of emphasis in helping us understand that God calls a very diverse group of people to follow Him. But it moves deeper into the matter of Christian Discipleship and the call of every disciple to become a maker of disciples. This study also emphasizes the necessity of the regular practice of spiritual disciples.
Every person is born with an inner quest for more. For many that quest becomes distorted and can lead to frustration, anxiety and when turned inward often manifests in a lifestyle of selfishness, greed and carelessness.
This study guides us to understand that our inner desire for more is God given, and that when turned toward spiritual matters can bring us into a rich relationship with God.
More of me given to God, and more of God in me can become the stepping stone to not only inner peace, but as one participant said, “Alan, this changed my relationship with God forever.”
Jesus had more to say about money than he did the topics of heaven and hell. The Bible provides enormous insight into the use of the resources that God puts into our care, yet my experience has been that many church leaders and members have little understanding of what the Bible teaches about money, and even less understanding about our responsibility for the management (stewardship) of all that belongs to God.
This workshop is pointed, practical, personal, and leads to planning for financial well-being and success. No, this is not some prosperity gospel teaching. It is Biblical, practical and implementable teaching.
This study is adaptable to a single or multiple session. Alan’s background as a pastor and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) brings an incredible blend of pastoral and professional credibility to this topic.
This is another group setting that is adaptable to the length needed. It has been done in as little as two hours, while in another setting the group met on four separate days for two hours each day.
The topics include “The Foundation of Bible Study,” “Tools for Bible Study,” Deductive Bible Study,” “Inductive Bible Study,” “Contending for the Faith,” “A Quick Survey of the Old Testament,” “A Quick Survey of the New Testament,” “Biblical Interpretation,” and “The Application of Scripture.”
Using the Bible, especially the Song of Solomon, it is possible in this group setting to both prepare for marriage, and to propel one’s marriage to a state of greater intimacy and connection, while building a strong foundation that can stand the test of time.
Dr. Alan Johnston, in addition to being a pastor, was for many years a Professional Licensed Counselor, and was the founder of Christian Counseling Ministries, Inc. Using what Alan refers to as the “Eight R’s of Healthy Marriages”, hundreds have found renewal and rejuvenation in their relationships.
Dr. Rod Fowler (Counselor Educator/the University of Tennessee) said this, “Dr. Alan Johnston distinguished himself as a scholar and as a helping person in our graduate program in counseling. He has a fine mind and a superior personality, he knows what to do with both. He exemplifies all those qualities requisite in a skilled and effective helper.”
In addition to the book Alan has formatted into a preaching-Bible study series the heart of the message that is contained in the subtitle of “The Ticking Clock.” “Countdown to Armageddon” is an apt subtitle as Alan develops a scripturally sound chronology, supported by the prophet Daniel, Jesus and the Apostle John.
This teaching/preaching series is readily adaptable to a single Sunday service, weekday Bible conference, and can be used as an impactful conference in a single Sunday by utilizing Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening.
Outreach Ministry
Path2Truth Ministry partners with many critical ministries whose goals align with ours. Through the International Mission Board we support more than 4,000 internationally based missionary personnel and their families. Through Wycliffe Translators we are engaged in translating the Bible into many languages, and currently with an emphasis on the languages in the Middle East. Our organization is an enthusiastic supporter of “Choices of Chattanooga,” a ministry which focuses on Mom’s with an unplanned pregnancy who have decided to give birth to that child – and gives medical care, counseling and necessities which will be needed to support the baby. Our partnership with Big Oak Ranch enables us to invest in the lives of children and teenagers who cannot return to their homes. Other ministries we partner with focus on prison ministry, disaster relief, church revitalization, feeding and clothing homeless individuals, food pantries, a children’s school and ministry in Puerto Rico, and we partner with Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse) as well as numerous mission projects throughout North America.
